Cast & Crew
Singer songwriter Gemma Nelson is an artist steeped with over 25 years’ worth of experience in the music industry. She has worked in touring shows as well as being in high demand as a session singer.
The journey really began in earnest in 1997 when she replied to an ad placed by record producer Mark Taylor in an industry magazine. The work was to provide guide vocals for a track written by English songwriter Brian Higgins. Little did Gemma know it at the time, but that single turned out to be the global chart topper Believe by the iconic vocalist Cher. A Grammy award winning song that redefined Cher’s career, that guidance by Gemma played an important part in getting the song recorded.
The achievement opened many doors and since then, she has been blessed to feature in TV shows, perform at renowned music venues and on bigger stages in front of larger audiences across the globe. Continuing to co-write and provide vocals for some leading names in Pop and Soul, including Jimmy Ruffin, Natalie Imbruglia, KT Tunstall, Chicane, Roy G. Hemmings (the Drifters) and Kool and the Gang, her voice has been compared to Lisa Stansfield, Bonnie Tyler and one of the most underrated vocalists of all time Julie London. To sit in that pantheon of incredible women is a testament to how her voice can stretch across multiple genres.
When not on the road with TBTD, Gemma turns her creativity to her career as a solo artist; she is reinventing herself for a global audience. Influenced by a passion for Soul and Rock with a pinch of Blues, she cites Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Maggie Bell, Susan Tedeschi, Tina Turner, P.P Arnold and Merry Clayton as just a few that have guided her over the years.
